Ok, this is going to be a long one...... I went on vacation last week, hence the absences of posts.
It started with a road trip to Pensacola on the Sunday the 18th. On Monday, we (Lisa, My mom, Jayci and I) hung out at the beach, soaked up the sun and played in surf! I did do a nice little 8 mile ride along Johnson Beach before hitting the water. Man, it felt great to just jump off the bike and just throw myself in the gulf! The next few days we were either on the beach, in the pool or on the front lawn of my Moms house watching the Blue Angels Practice. Just a nice relaxing couple of Days...... then came Thursday!
Steve and Cody came into town on Wednesday evening for what was supposed to be a Kayak trip down the Coosa river, but Steve informed me earlier in the week that the Coosa was down and they weren't sure if they would be releasing water from the damn on Thursday, so we decided to make other plans. We figured we would give Windsurfing another chance, last April we had signed up for lessons but had to cancel due to timing issues. We called up the folks at Rouge Wave and set it all up.
We arrive at Pensacola beach at about 1pm and while setting up the boards the wind just died! I instantly thought about all the times that Steve and I had gone Climbing/Camping/Hiking in the past and were chased off the peaks and trails by heavy rains and thunder storms. Windsurfing with no wind, just our luck! Even our instructor was getting a little worried but we pushed on with the lesson. After a 45 minute beach session, learning proper stance on the board and how to handle the sail, we moved the boards into the bay. At that time a slight wind was starting to blow and we were in business! We sailed around for about 45 minutes then took a short break. When we headed back out, the wind had grown a little stronger and the three of us seemed to be a lot more comfortable on the boards. I had a few good runs and a few hard crashes. We came in for one more short break and at about 3pm, upon returning to the water, mother nature kicked things up a notch, the wind was really kickin now! We jumped on our boards and could tack and jibe with the best of them...... or at least the best of the worst. We had a freaking blast!
Friday morning Lisa and I hit the road to New Orleans. We arrived at Steve and Wendy's at around 3pm, got cleaned up and made our way to the French Quarter. We had an incredible meal at the Crescent City Brew house, then walk over to Bourbon St................. you guessed it, we got sloshed! I also showed my man boobs and got rewarded with beads!
We spent most of Saturday recovering from the night before. We just sat around and watched Lance kick some ass in the Tour de France and veg'ed out. Later in the day, after Wendy fixed us a really nice meal, we all went for a bike ride around the neighborhood. Steve and I put in about ten miles, while the Ladies headed in early to watch Big Brother. The rest of the evening was spent watching movies, Drinking Beer and Dackeries.
It was a fantastic trip!
Thanks to all who made it possible!
