My ninth organized ride of the year and it was a great one! Nathan had car trouble and didn't make it, so I was the only MBBC member on the 62 mile (100k) route. We started off in Stephenville at Tarleton State University at 8am. The ride started out fast. I was able to keep up with the lead group for the first 5 miles or so, with the route being fairly flat until we hit FM 2481.
Then came the rollers, nothing to difficult, small to moderate in size with good enough downhill's to level out uphill's. After the Third rest stop is where the real work begins. From Alexander to Dublin the rollers turned into several moderate inclines. The route from Dublin to the finish was not any easier, the hills were as plentiful as the previous 15 miles, only steeper.
The rest stop in Dublin was great. They had a tent set up with a couple bench's and they were passing out Real Dr. Pepper (The Original Formula)... the kind with Imperial Pure Cane Sugar! The only place you can get it is in Dublin, which happens to be the site of the oldest Dr. Pepper bottling plant in the world! They also had DR. P brownies.... very interesting stuff.
Anyway, I made it back in just under 4 hours and with an average speed of 15.5 mph.... not bad considering all of the hills (about 2000ft of elevation gain).
